Nepalese break Trailwalker record

 

Oxfam Trail Walker (OTW) is Hong Kong’s most popular hiking fundraising event, organised by Oxfam Hong Kong (OHK).

Held on November 18-20, AWOO Team Nepal was the first team to finish this year, completing the arduous trail from Sai Kung to

Yuen Long, in a new record time of 11 hours and 1 minute, well inside the winning times in 2015 and 2014, the previous years that this precise course has been run, of 11 hours and 58 minutes and 11 hours and 56 minutes respectively.

The 1,300 four-person teams were supported by more than 8,000 support team members, staff and volunteers. Participants take up the 100km challenge have to aim to finish within 48 hours and this year 89% of all walkers completed the trail within the time limit.

Trini Leung, Director General of Oxfam Hong Kong said, “2016 is a very memorable year as we celebrate OHK’s 40th anniversary and OTW’s 35th anniversary this year. We hope that just as those who have passed on this ‘trail walking spirit’ to the trail walkers and they will continue to pass it on to others.”
