Sorry if this is a silly question. How likely are people to get serious injuries in adventure races?
My boyfriend and I have discussed entering a race but he's a tennis coach and can't afford to get an injury which would stop him from working.
What are the most common injuries and how are they caused?

I've seen some people wear wrist protectors and elbow pads and would think if the tennis player is really concerned he could wear those but think it is probably better to do a short easy race and just jog it slowly the first time. If he likes it train harder and go faster within his limits. Pushing to hard and being uncomfortable might cause him an injury I would think. Glen

This could get pretty funny if everyone starts talking about which injury they have received in adventure racing as almost like saying which injuries can you get playing tennis as probably many if you don't learn and take it easy first. In a lot of the Action Asia races their has been many cuts and scrapes from tripping on rocks, caused from being to tired to other things like dehydration from not entering the race properly hydrated. Will let others comment. Injury prevention or what to do when injured is another topic for discussion. Will have to get Tim McCosker the sports injury specialist to get on this forum....but saying all that think adventure racing is easier than it looks....

I am actually surprised that you mention wrist & elbow protection, Glen, because we are actually most concerned with knee & ankle injuries, having seen some images in the past of rock-scrambling which showed quite slippery & large boulders which I think is what MMAAE is also confirming.
I suppose we can just do it slowly & carefully first time, and not let the adrenalin get us carried away, and take it from there. Thank you both for the replies.

The most common injury I recieve would have to be damaged shins caused by going too hard through the river gullys, otherwise its thigh strain with all the steep stair climbs then the hangover caused by all the free FOSTERS.
Best suggestion is to just enjoy yourself, if you feel you can go harder do it, if not dont.
